Our Lady Gerontissa Icon | Blessing for the Home

The icon of the Mother of God Gerontissa, “the Eldress”, is one of the best-known wonderworking icons on Holy Mount Athos and is kept at Pantokrator Monastery.

The vessel of oil depicted beside the Mother of God recalls a great miracle at the monastery. During a famine, when supplies had run out, the monks prayed with tears to the Mother of God. Through her intercession, the monastery's oil vessels were miraculously filled and the community was delivered from want. The icon is therefore associated with abundance, help in need and the providential care of the Mother of God.

In popular devotion, it is also known as the “Blessing for the Home” icon and is placed in Christian homes for blessing, help in times of need and strengthening of faith.

The icon features an elegant frame and finely worked silver-plated cover, giving it a distinguished appearance suitable for a home prayer corner or as a meaningful blessing gift.
