Akathists to the Romanian Saints Proclaimed for the Centenary of the Romanian Patriarchate (Hardback)

The saints are the fruits of the work of the Holy Spirit within the Church founded by Christ the Saviour. For the Centenary of the Romanian Patriarchate, at the initiative of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church canonised and proclaimed sixteen Romanian saints who lived under the atheistic communist dictatorship. Venerable saints, confessors and martyrs—some parish priests and others monastics—they were distinguished by holy lives in every historic region of Romania, including Bessarabia. A clear connection therefore exists between the Holy Synod's proclamation of 2025 as both the Solemn Year of the Centenary of the Romanian Patriarchate and the Commemorative Year of Romanian Orthodox Spiritual Fathers and Confessors of the Twentieth Century. Liturgical texts and akathists beloved by Romanian Orthodox Christians were composed in their honour. Each akathist presents brief events or miracles from the life of a saint, praising the faith and virtues through which the grace of the Holy Spirit brought purification, illumination and sanctification. Reading an akathist gives the faithful an opportunity to enter communion with the saints, experience their encouraging presence and receive grace within the soul, blessing for the family and health of soul and body. This volume contains the akathists to the sixteen saints canonised by the Romanian Orthodox Church for the Centenary of the Romanian Patriarchate. It was prepared by the Liturgical Books Department of the Publishing Houses of the Romanian Patriarchate. Produced to a high typographic standard, it is intended for clergy, monastics, cantors and lay believers who wish to honour these recently proclaimed Romanian saints, rejoice in the fruits of their intercession before God and follow their example of confessing the true faith and living in holiness.
